Happy 40th Birthday, Internet!

———————————————————————————————————————————
Sept. 2, 1969 : At UCLA at Leonard Kleinrock’s lab, two large computers passed test data through a 15-foot gray cable giving birth to the beginnings of the internet.
The L.A. Times has a good article of the beginnings of the internet, and
where it’s taking us now.

researchers sought to create an open network for freely exchanging information, an openness that ultimately spurred the innovation that would later spawn the likes of YouTube, Facebook and the World Wide Web.

You can also listen to NPR.org’s Internet segment with digital journalists Mario Armstrong and Xeni Jardin talk about the web’s transformative effect on society and
the looming digital divide.

Xeni Jardin also posted a video on Boing Boing with Leonard Kleinrock talking
about that first connection.
