“The American” Teaser Trailer

In theaters September 1st, 2010 and starring George Clooney.
Directed by Anton Corbijn (his first feature film, previously directed many music documentaries). Also starring Bruce Altman, Thekla Reuten, Irina Björklund, Violante Placido, Paolo Bonacelli, Samuli Vauramo, Filippo Timi. This looks like a good old-fashioned action thriller.

Plot: Jack (George Clooney) is an artful assassin with a lengthy track record, constantly on the move and always watching his back. When an assignment goes wrong and a lover ends up dead, he vows that the next job will be his last. This final obligation takes him to a picturesque town nestled amongst lush Italian hills, its historical piazzas bursting with life. But to Jack, every location is a trap and every person a potential threat. Still, he surprises himself, enjoying confessional conversations over Armagnac with an insightful priest and slipping into an affair with a local beauty. But by letting his guard down, Jack may be tempting fate. (via)

BBC :: The Genius Of Design series

This 5-part BBC Documentary series explores the history of design.
I found all the episodes online below (hopefully they will stay online). Watch them below or here:
Episode 1, Episode 2, Episode 3, Episode 4, Episode 5.

**UPDATE: the embeds are bring finicky, so just click the links above.
P.S. It’s a Chinese site, don’t be scared.**

The first episode of this new series tells the fascinating story of the birth of industrial design. Alongside the celebrated names, from Wedgwood to William Morris, it also explores the work of the anonymous designers responsible for prosaic but classic designs for cast-iron cooking pots to sheep shears – harbingers of a breed of industrially produced objects culminating in the Model T Ford. Includes interviews with legendary designer Dieter Rams and J Mays, Ford Motors’ global head of design.

Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World extended trailer

Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World starring Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Kieran Culkin,
Chris Evans and Anna Kendrick.

Yes, Michael Cera is playing the same type of character again, but this actually looks kinda fun and silly. I really want to see Jason Schwartzman’s character. The movie comes out August 13th.

L’illusionniste trailer: from the director of The Triplets of Belleville

L’illusionniste (The Illusionist) Directed by Sylvain Chomet
I could not find a US release date, but it comes out today in UK & France.

The Illusionist is one of a dying breed of stage entertainers. With emerging rock stars stealing his thunder, he is forced to accept increasingly obscure assignments in fringe theatres, at garden parties and in bars and cafés. However, whilst performing in a village pub off the west coast of Scotland, he encounters Alice, an innocent young girl, who will change his life forever. (via)

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros Take-Away Show

Another great Blogotheque Take-Away Show.
This Take-Away show is a bit different than the usual ones. Instead of parading down the street or performing in a secluded location; this show is filmed right after a sold-out concert at the Fillmore in San Francisco outside with fans circling all around them. The energy is amazing.

But the corner of my eye I finally see Alex Ebert, the ‘front man’ slip out of the room. He pushed a piano in the street. My heart began to pounce. Finally. It was the moment that we wanted to create for months. I pressed ‘REC’, then I let the energy take over. What happened next, I could never have imagined. (translated by google, via)
