Paul Rand’s Business card and more…

This is Paul Rand’s Business card.

You may remember the video about Steve Jobs talking about his experience working with Paul Rand.
This will explain the business card for those who do not know Paul Rand.

James Phillips Williams, has a great story involving Paul Rand and Peter Arnell.

he did not open my portfolio. he held up my resume and read it aloud. “so, you went to yale?” he asked. “i did,” i replied. “it doesn’t bother you that i went to princeton and my partner went to columbia?” “no,” i said, “not everyone gets into yale.” (i already figured I wasn’t getting the job.) “so you studied with paul rand?” ”i did.” “would he remember you?” “um, i guess. i would like to hope so.” at this point he yelled out to his assistant, “can you get paul rand on the phone?”

download League Gothic (font) for free

The League of Moveable Type based League Gothic on another typeface made by Morris Fuller Benton.
You can download the font for free here.

It was originally designed for the American Type Founders Company (ATF) in 1903. The company went bankrupt in 1993. And since the original typeface was created before 1923, the typeface is in the public domain

Kill Bill poster by Ibraheem Youssef

Ibraheem Youssef is a Toronto designer and has designed a few other Tarantino movie posters,
this one was my favorite.

And quite coincidentally calls his website “welcome to obsession”, small world/great minds.

“Analog Hair” by Jamie Reed

Jamie Reed’s “Analog Hair” is hand printed directly to used 12″ records.
The label bleeds through making each one unique.

There was only a limited edition of 30 and sadly, they are all sold out but other prints are for sale.

We’ve Never Met

My friends, David Hopkins (writer) & Chad Thomas (artist) do a comic every week in The Quick, called We’ve Never Met.
David asked me to create a simple logotype for the title of their comic to give it more personality. After a few rounds, this is the final result & first comic in print using the new logo. Yippie! (you can check out all the past comics here)
