Lego iPhone Photo App

Make your photos lego-ized.
You can either take photos directly with your camera or from your gallery. The app says that its better to use photos that are shot at a close range with a solid light colored background. You can change the colors of the legos used in the photo by touching the screen after the photo has been lego-ized. P.S. the app is free!

I tested this out for myself. It’s super easy to use.

Follow-up to my “Random Fact”

I just recently twittered: Random Fact: there were were only about 130 websites in 1993 and have more random info.
• The Web went publicly online posted by alt.hypertext (a newsgroup) (good explanation of hypertext) on August 6, 1991.

• Some historical hypertext milestones.

• First webcomic: Doctor Fun

• Wiki has a list of all the websites created before 1995.

The machine that changed the world

Internet Archive, I always forget about the Wayback Machine. What Thoughtbrain looked like in 2004, I wanted to create a creative collaborate magazine… Too bad I only updated twice.. hah! My favorite (you have to wait for it to load) was my Feature, an interview with Gary Baseman. I used his illustrations and made this interactive sound enhanced flash animation for showcase the interview. It STILL works!

Andtie Scarf

Andtie: a scarf and tie
Pretty cute. Too bad you can only order them by email. It’s a little weird their website has no other information.

**UPDATE (1/2/2009) Thanks to Martin Aamand, I have more info on Andtie.
The cost for one of these scarves is €89 (~$130) including shipping worldwide (They are located in Denmark). All of them are limited editions and to see what is all available go here. Andtie is working on setting up an online payment option, but right now are only taking bank transfers (I’m guessing paypal might be accepted).

Resolutions :: Be a more knowledgeable designer

I mostly look at visual representation for inspiration (annuals and such), but I’ve decided it’s time to start actually reading for inspiration to be a more knowledgeable designer.
Here’s a few things I have bookmarked for myself to take a look at. (FYI I have not fully read these yet, these are future reads)

15 Must Read Articles For CSS Beginniners
I’m going to be taking some short web classes next semesters to get me started on some things. One of them is CSS. I’m using the class as a jumpstart, then taking it upon myself to learn more. This is bookmarked to future reading.

279 Days To Overnight Success
This is a downloadable pdf book for anyone wanting to be successful in creating a new career (independently) and using social media properly to do that.

Get a Design Job!
Another downloadable pdf book for anyone that is just starting out. Or anyone that needs to revamp and improve themselves and their portfolios.

How To Be a Graphic Designer Without Losing Your Soul
This is a book I got from the library but I didn’t get a chance to finish. It’s humorously well written and has alot of good advice without all the bullshit. I think I will just buy it soon.

Massimo Vignelli’s The Vignelli Cannon
Another downloadable book that talks about the basic rules of his work, divided into 2 sections, Intangible issues and Tangible issues.

Made to Stick: Why some ideas thrive while others die
I just got this for Xmas, it was recommended from something I read (but I don’t remember). I usually can’t read books like this, but I read an excerpt (there is one here and here) and it was quite entertaining. It’s about a blend of case studies and research on making ideas stick.

Do you have any good ones to share?

Mother’s $10,000 Honest spam

The London agency, Mother, had a $10,000 budget to spend on their clients for Xmas.
Their clever idea of spending it was to send out an email that resembled spam, first person who replied got the whole $10,000 to keep. The video explains how it all went down.
