Tutorial Blog has 25 sites for free & cheap stock photos
Most sites are user submitted photos, but if you need something basic, like fruit on a white background, this would be a great resource to use. These are the few that I think were the best out of the 25.
Unprofound
Different from the other sites by allowing you to search by color. (as well search by object). Looks at the FAQ, the site says you are not required to credit, display copyright or return a link to use the photos here. If you choose to do so, you can credit either the unprofound.com website or the specific photographer(s) responsible for the photo(s) you use.

FreePixels
FreePixels has some decent photos that would be suited for more corporate things. Their usage is pretty open allowing you to use in any magazine, newspaper or other publication, product, design element or promotional material (commercial or personal). But you cannot use their image to create art, logos and resell on your own. And you must give credit to at least the site.

FreeRange
FreeRange has a well designed site. It is the best looking of the bunch. The photos are shot of photographers hired by the site as well user submitted photos. A nice feature they have is a way to request imagery if they don’t have something. All photos can be used for commercial or personal projects. You do have to register to get the image. But it’s free!

New Basement Jaxx – “Raindrops”

Basement Jaxx – “Raindrops”
The UK duo (Felix Buxton and Simon Ratcliffe) have a new album coming out tentatively titled Scars, coming out in either spring (May) or early summer (June).
There is talk that it will include vocals from Grace Jones, Yoko Ono, Yo! Majesty, Lightspeed Champion, Cyndi Lauper, Santigold, and Sam Sparro. The single, “Raindrops,” has vocals from Felix, but I can’t wait to hear the others, I’m a huge Basement Jaxx fan. I still listen to their old stuff and still dance around like a mad woman.

Comic Sans :: A short documentary
———————————————————————————————————————————
Comic Sans is every designers most hated font. This documentary is about the guy who created it.
If you love it, you don’t know much about typography. And if you hate it, you really don’t know much about typography either and you should get another hobby. — Vincent Connare (the creator of comic sans)
p.s. he was the in-house font designer for Microsoft.

Dont Trust Anybody
———————————————————————————————————————————
“I had a client, an Italian fellow, who told me, ‘When I was a little boy, my father put me on a pedestal and said, ‘Jump and I’ll catch you.’ So I jumped. And my father let me fall. He said, ‘Let that be a lesson to you: Don’t trust anybody.”

The Hipster Grifter
———————————————————————————————————————————
The New York Observer has a story on The Hipster Grifter
22-year-old grifter Kari Ferrell, who recently conned her way into many New Yorker’s hearts, beds and wallets. She even landed a job at Vice magazine…. She managed to convince everyone, at least for a short period of time, that (amongst other things) she had lung cancer, was pregnant, worked for Coachella promoters GoldenVoice, and that she would, like, totally pay them back. Eventually they were all smart enough to Google her. [and found she was wanted in Salt Lake City]

Gawker also has two follow up stories here and here.
The Gothamist has stories about all the other hipsters The Grifter conned.
